Colon Blow - SNL
My wife, Sharon, and I were watching YouTube videos about our next cruise itinerary that includes Key West, FL. A couple the vlogs showed that they found a box of cereal called Colon Blow in a store there. I assume it is in tribute to this old SNL skit. Enjoy.

I have been collecting some Esterbrook vintage fountain pens for a couple of years now. My latest addition is a pristine Dollar Pen from 1939. I will show you the Dollar Pen and show how it is compared to the J Series.

Jinhao 995 Swan Fountain Pen Review
The Chinese pen manufacturer, Jinhao, makes a number of different fountain pens. One of their latest is the 995 Swan. It is an inexpensive pen, but how does it perform for the dollar price tag?

Pen Mail - Visconti Homo Sapiens Elegance, Sheaffer Taranis, Lamy Pur
Four new pens showed up in today's mail. I received a Visconti Homo Sapiens Elegance in midi size, as well as three pens from auctions at www.newtonpens.com. Newton Pens has monthly pen auctions to benefit the Newton Pens Scholarship Fund. I won three pens in February, two Lamy Pur fountain pens and one Sheaffer Taranis.

Circa 1900 - 1910 Vintage Eyedropper Fountain Pen - Pen Mail
Today I got a vintage eyedropper fountain pen that is of unknown manufacturer or date. There is no branding on this pen at all except that it has a Sengbusch brand nib on it. It is possibly circa 1900 to 1910, but there is no documentation on this.

Vintage Pen Mail - A Hi-Writer and an unbranded lever filler
In pen mail today, I got two vintage additions to my collection. One is a circa 1920's or 30's third tier manufactured Hi-Writer. I have not been able to find any information on that brand in all of my searches. The other is an unbranded lever filler with a hooded nib, probably from the 1950's. It reminds me a lot of a Universal brand pen I have in its construction.

1930's Packard Fountain Pen & Pencil Combo
In pen mail today, I got a 1930's Packard fountain pen/pencil combination. Packard was a third tier manufacturer. I was never excited about combination pens like this, but picked one up finally out of curiosity. Side note: since the recording, I have cleaned and polished the pen a bit and it does look a little better.

GRAIL PEN DELIVERY! Waterman Edson Boucheron AND Newton Pens Shinobi
For a long time I have been wanting a Waterman Edson. I especially wanted one when I saw the Edson in a Boucheron edition. I finally got one. It was my very first "Grail Pen" I wanted. ALSO, the wait is finally over and I got my Newton Pens custom made Shinobi. I ordered the pen in September of 2017 and it arrived in my mail delivery just today. I unbox and show them both in today's video.

Bricks and Boondoggles
My local town purchased an old building to become a new "civic center". There are only about 6,000 residents in our town, and the majority of those people do not own their homes. They are property renters, which means that they vote but do not directly pay property taxes to the municipality. Our town sometimes falls prey to the idea that because something is a nice idea that we must spend taxpayer money on it. I highly differ.
When it comes to this civic center, it was a boondoggle from the beginning. It was an old building owned by the American Legion. Well, the leader of that post is now on our town council. The woman who was leading the charge to purchase the building and renovate it is also now on the town council. At least the building was purchased by the town prior to her being elected.
The problem is that we already have a civic center building for public use. We also have an unused Lion's Club building in town.
The idea was to get private donations to renovate the building. The building cost the town $60,000 and the renovation to make it usable was going to be $300,000. Private donations were never going to cover the cost. So what do fundraising leaders do? They look to handouts from government grants, of course. What does an empty building in a rural town have to do with the USDA? Why are our federal tax dollars funding a civic center in Podunk, NC? What business is it of taxpayers in Arkansas or California to help fund a boondoggle project in Selma? The only positive side to this is that it was not a loan, so we are not being taxed on the front end to supply the funding by the federal government and taxed locally on the back end to repay the loan.
Well, the fundraising is not quite over yet. The town is still taking donations/purchases of bricks to fund the project further. I have purchased a brick to pave a veterans' memorial before, and they were about one fourth the cost of what the town is asking. But, IF the town is willing to take my $100 to engrave the brick I want to purchase with the message I want, I am willing to buy one before the upcoming deadline.

Parker 95 Fountain Pen Review
I share the Parker 95 fountain pen today. This one is a Laque Thuya. The Parker 95 was introduced in 1988 and was in production until 1994. These pens are still fairly common in the used market. I give my evaluation here.

Kaco Edge vs. Lamy 2000
The new Kaco Edge Chinese made fountain pen is being compared to the Lamy 2000. There are both similarities and differences. Is it a good substitute for the Lamy or just a cheap knock off? I compare and contrast them here.

Esterbrook Phaeton and Stipula Pasaporto Unboxing
It took the US Postal Service seven days to get this package from Goulet Pens to me once they had it in their local distribution center, but I finally got to unbox my latest pen mail order. You see it as I see it. I got a few pens for giveaway like a Lamy Safari, a Nemosine Singularity, and a Platinum Preppy marker. I also picked up a bunch of ink samples that were on sale. The main two items that I wanted to play with, however, were a modern Esterbrook Phaeton 300R and a Stipula Passaporto.

Today I show you the Monteverde Tool Pen fountain pen that my lovely bride gave me for Christmas. It has decent utility, is pretty indestructible, has some novelty, and writes well.
