You can't correct someone who is correct

I was out of town for about a week on business, so I haven't done much blogging lately.

After getting home this afternoon, I saw this story on TV.  Speciale is correct.  The NAACP and William Barber are nothing but race pimps who keep racism alive for their own personal benefit. Barber can not 'correct' someone who is already correct.  Speciale should not apologize or retract his statements.

NAACP chief seeks to 'correct' House freshman's racism claim

State NAACP President Rev. William Barber held a news conference Friday and responded to a Republican House freshman who accused Barber of "racist diatribes" and having a "race-baiting attitude."
"I don’t take stuff like that personally," Barber told reporters as supporters stood behind him. "He can have his opinion. We believe in freedom of speech. We have a responsibility to correct him."
Rep. Michael Speciale, R-Craven, along with all other state lawmakers, received an emailed version of a statement last week by Barber on proposed voter ID legislation.
In the statement, Barber calls voter ID initiatives "national propaganda efforts by the far-right to justify the obvious tactic to suppress the votes of minorities, youth, disabled and the elderly," and urges Republican legislative leaders to abandon their push for such a law in North Carolina.
WRAL News obtained the email Speciale sent in response, in which he accused Barber of tarnishing the "proud history" of the NAACP.
"You do minorities and the elderly a disservice when you assume that they are incapable or incompetent to the point that they cannot provide a photo ID to vote," Speciale wrote. "Your comments, both today and in the past are racist and inappropriate, therefore, I request that you remove me from your email list."
Speciale did not respond to calls and emails for comment or clarification.
"It’s like he picked up a book from the '50s or '60s and regurgitated the same answers from that day, instead of listening to what we’re saying," Barber said Friday. "He sent that as a way to try to divide and conquer, and it won’t work."

Speciale isn't the first eastern North Carolina Republican to call Barber and his group racists. In 2011, former Rep. Stephen LaRoque, R-Lenoir, did the same thing.
Barber and NAACP Vice President Curtis Gatewood turned the tables on lawmakers during their news conference, charging that the General Assembly is racist.
"If a policy is going to have a disparate impact upon blacks (and) minorities, we're going to call it what it is," Barber said. "That is why we call it systemic racism."
House Majority Leader Edgar Starnes said the reasons for voter ID legislation are getting lost amid the charges and counter-charges.
"I call on all members of the legislature and of groups with an interest in this issue to focus on policy rather than on emotion. Issues as important as this often generate emotional reactions," Starnes said.
Separately, remarks by NAACP attorney Al McSurely during the news conference regarding the origin of Speciale's email caused another dust-up.
"I don’t really think he wrote this letter. I think he gave it to one of his Civitas people and said, ‘Let’s go after Rev. Barber,'" McSurely said.
Civitas and Dallas Woodhouse, state director of Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina, whom McSurely also mentioned, both released statements Friday, calling on McSurely to retract his statement.
“It is appalling that McSurely, an attorney and therefore an officer of the court, would make such an utterly false claim,” Civitas President Francis De Luca said in a statement. “He has no basis for making that charge: He made it up out of whole cloth. He should retract this lie immediately.”
"I had nothing to do with this email, nor did Americans for Prosperity. To infer that I am responsible for the content of this email is a lie and Mr. McSurely knows it," Woodhouse said in a separate statement. "I intend to hold Mr. McSurely responsible in front of the State North Carolina Bar for his unethical conduct."

The Obomination begins

It is finally over. The inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama is done. I have been so tired of hearing about Obama and the upcoming inauguration. Because it is a snow day and we have a good amount of it in our region, most of the area is shut down and I got to catch the inauguration.

Let me get this out of the way. I do not have a hatred for Barack Obama or racist feelings towards him. I do, however, despise his character, his lack of experience, his playing the race card, the racist (almost cult like) following he has, and his views. It is all about the issues and principles. I could not care less about the color of his skin. His supporters, however, apparently do.

I know decent Christians who abandon their belief system in supporting the "Black man", regardless of the fact that he is antithetical to their espoused belief system. I have heard so many well meaning people say that Obama is the realization of Martin Luther King's "dream" of racial equality and advancement of the Black race. Well, keep in mind that Obama is only HALF Black. Of course the half Caucasian ancestry is irrelevant to those who wish to self promote.

Anyway, the bottom line is that I despise the racism that got Obama elected and his socialist views. What amazed me was the benediction given by the Rev. Joseph Lowery. All I could do when I heard it was to raise a middle finger at the TV. Here is the end of the benediction speech.
Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen
Now THAT was blatant racism. "...and when white will embrace what is right." Sorry, but that is a very racist assumption that all whites in America are inherently racist and will work to suppress all other races. That is just wrong and in itself racist. I despise racism, and I do not care from whence it comes.

Good riddance. One less state employee on the payroll.

I can understand not wanting to pour accolades on an individual with whom you have great disagreement. However, in the military, you are told to salute the rank, not the man. That is how I feel about flying flags at half staff. Like him or not, Jesse Helms did have a long history of loyal public service. One state employee retired rather than lower the flag at his facility to half staff. Good riddance. He is ticked over Helms' opposition to the MLK holiday. I detest that holiday for several reasons, not the least of which is that it replaces other official holidays such as Veterans' Day or Presidents' Day in government as well as private company calendars. I believe it to be an appeasement of a minority at the expense of the majority.

Here is the story from WRAL news:
State worker retires after refusing to honor Jesse Helms

Raleigh, N.C. — A state worker who worked 29 years for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture decided this week to retire instead of lowering a flag to honor the late former Sen. Jesse Helms.

L.F. Eason III, 51, told his laboratory staff not to fly the U.S. flag or North Carolina flag at half-staff, despite a call from Gov. Mike Easley to do so.

When Eason's supervisor confronted him about the decision, he said he would rather retire, Brian Long, a spokesman with the Department of Agriculture, said.

Eason could still face some type of disciplinary action, Long said, but the nature of the action was never determined because he voluntarily said he was going to retire.

Eason told The News & Observer of Raleigh that he did not think it was appropriate to remember Helms because of his opposition to civil rights legislation and the national Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
I am glad you are no longer working off my tax dollars, Mr. Eason. You have zero class and no concept of honor.

ADDED:
The N&O has several stories on the subject. I will add a couple of quotes and links.
From this page:
In an interview, Eason said he was given the ultimatum over the phone.

"I was not given a choice," he said. "I was told if I lowered the flags completely or raised them up, I would be fired."

Here is another piece and a couple of quotes:
"Regardless of any executive proclamation, I do not want the flags at the North Carolina Standards Laboratory flown at half staff to honor Jesse Helms any time this week," Eason wrote just after midnight, according to e-mail messages released in response to a public records request.

He told his staff that he did not think it was appropriate to honor Helms because of his "doctrine of negativity, hate, and prejudice" and his opposition to civil rights bills and the federal Martin Luther King Jr. holiday...

In a string of e-mail messages with his superiors, Eason was told he could either lower the flags or retire effective immediately.

Though he's only 51, Eason chose to retire, although he pleaded several times to be allowed to stay at the lab. Eason, who had worked for the Agriculture Department since graduating from college, was paid $65,235 a year as the laboratory manager.

Several people, including his wife, argued to Eason that the flags belonged to the state, as did the lab. But Eason said he felt a strong sense of ownership.

The N&O got the actual emails containing Eason's stupidity. Here is what he wrote the Secretary of Agriculture and the Governor. He paints with a broad brush and exaggerates. Good riddance.
"Regardless of any executive proclamation, I do not want the flags at the North Carolina Standards Laboratory flown at half staff to honor Jesse Helms any time this week.

"This is in no way a political decision. I simply do not feel it is appropriate to honor a person whose epitaph of government service was to have voted against or blocked every civil rights issue that came before the US Congress. His doctrine of negativity, hate, and prejudice cost North Carolina and our Nation much that we may never regain."

Excerpts from an e-mail message that Eason sent later that same day to Gov. Mike Easley and state Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler:

"I made a decision to refuse to lower our flags at the NC Standards Laboratory to half mast in honor of Jesse Helms as soon as I heard of his death. I cannot in good conscience honor such a man who fought so hard against Civil and Human Rights throughout his life. Even to his death bed, he refused to apologize for the damage he caused. Now, I stand by this decision. It is a personal decision, but obviously affects my job at the lab. It has been over ruled by Division and Departmental Management and as I look out my window, I'm ashamed to see the flags lowered ...

"I also understand that my decision is not acceptable. You cannot ignore that fact. There is the law, but there is also a higher law I must follow as a matter of conscience."

Yeah, sure, like it is all about race...

When two black men commit a crime such as breaking and entering or larceny and one of them gets accidentally killed by the victim of the crime, you can count on the NAACP crying racism. Let the homeowner that accidentally killed the criminal get off light in the court system (instead of being applauded as he should be, in my opinion) and you can count on the NAACP protesting. People like Timothy Hodges is nothing but a race pimp. He exploits his own people for his personal agenda and power. People like him spoke at the town council meeting in Selma when Mayor Charles Hester made a comment about a lynching that had NOTHING to do with a black individual. Yet, the NAACP took the opportunity to exploit the situation as a racist remark. Hester deserved the negative attention as far as I am concerned, but racist it was not. Hodges was just looking for an opportunity to pimp his victimhood message.

John Reid did what he SHOULD have done to protect his livelihood and his home. Of course you will not hear from people like Timothy Hodges that people like Cornelius Brown and his partner should never have been performing criminal acts in the first place. That would not show victim status to the black race. When the perpetrator got caught and killed, then it is to the advantage of a race pimp to exploit the situation. On top of that, when Reid was not indicted, that added fuel to the race pimp's fire. Hey, Timothy Hodges and the NAACP, it is NOT all about race! It is about right and wrong. If you REALLY want to help, educate your own people to avoid being stereotypical in their behavior! Even Barack Obama got that one right yesterday. Why can't YOU?

Racism goes two ways. Listen to the pastor of Barack Obama.

Never mind the fact that Obama is not poor and that Jesus was not Black. Don't let the facts stand in the way....

Why does it make news every time someone uses the "N" word?

Some simple minded jackass makes racist comments and it makes news. Why? Why bother edifying, glorifying, or dignifying the act by giving it attention? Let it go away and there will be no incentive to gain media attention by doing it.

From the WTSB web site:
Racist Notes Found In Campbell Dorm
While Campbell University celebrated the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, several students found racial slurs on small yellow notes attached to their doors. Five notes were found in the Small Residential Hall saying "Happy Nigger Day." The incident allegedly occurred as the school was holding its second annual Martin Luther King Day of Service project. Campbell officials said several students reported finding the notes, but it was confined to one hall in the dormitory. None of the rooms where the notes were found were occupied by black students. "If the perpetrator is found to be a student, according to university policy, the punishment for such behavior may be up to and including expulsion," according to Jon Roberson, Campbell Vice President for Marketing. A video of the sticky notes was also posted on Facebook online. Students responded on the Internet posting with comments ranging from disbelief to anger about what had happened.

Big frickin' deal. So what? The obvious double standard is that there can be Black History Month but no White History Month, a Black Miss America but no White Miss America, and no NAAWP. There are just as many racist acts and comments (yeah, you cracker) the other way, but they don't get media attention nor the dismay.

Happy James Earl Ray Day.

I am not a fan of MLK Day at all. I believe that King did nothing worth having a national holiday in his honor. His memory and legacy has been hijacked by the likes of Jesse Jackson and the message perverted. I have read his famous speeches and heard the audio that is available online.

I have a problem with the Rev. Johnson's assertion in the article that we should be celebrating King's death anniversary instead of that of his birth. It was not his death that accomplished his activities, it was his life. Why continue to make him a martyr? Why not celebrate a man's life instead of death?

I am tired of people worshiping King as it is. To celebrate King's death turns MLK Day into James Earl Ray Day. I agree wholeheartedly with the quote in the article, "We remember him with parades and galas and banquets, things that are really irrelevant and silly regarding Dr. King's legacy," he said. "If we really want to honor Dr. King, we should do something about people who live under bridges. That would be a great tribute." Very true.

I both agree and disagree with this quote. "We've allowed white America to escape the guilt of his assassination and we've allowed black America to drift back into a coma." White America deserves no guilt for the assassination of King. ONE man pulled the trigger, not all Americans. As King said, he has a dream that one day his children will be judged by the content of their character rather than by the color of their skin. Why not afford the same respect in the other direction? If you want respect, give that same respect. Did Black America drift back into a coma? Perhaps. Instead of working to gain the respect of their fellow man, many leaders (who are self appointed, it seems) in the Black community do not work to foster respect but rather hatred and further stereotypes and hatred. That is sad.

Would King have supported BET, the Black Miss America pageant, and other segregational events and organizations; or would he support Blacks, Whites, Asians, and Hispanics competing and interacting on equal footing? Anyway, here is the article:
M.L. King ally says U.S. holiday an insult
DALLAS, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A Dallas minister who marched with civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., said Monday's birthday observance holiday is an insult to his legacy.

The Rev. Peter Johnson, 62, director of the Texas operations for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, told The Dallas Morning News the holiday should be on April 4, the anniversary of the date King was assassinated.

"We have ignored the essence of his life and the horror of his death," said Johnson. "We've allowed white America to escape the guilt of his assassination and we've allowed black America to drift back into a coma."

Johnson said King is considered a martyr by many but said, if he were alive, he would be considered an agitator by many people, the newspaper said.

"We remember him with parades and galas and banquets, things that are really irrelevant and silly regarding Dr. King's legacy," he said. "If we really want to honor Dr. King, we should do something about people who live under bridges. That would be a great tribute."
