Guys, be on guard against these things.

People, there are all sorts of traps out there. They come in many forms. I have a YouTube channel that I use to display my hobby of fountain pen use. I have shared plenty of videos right here on this blog over the years. I get questions all the time about pens through various social media outlets. I have shared my pen hobby on Twitter...OK, X (dumb name, Elon) in the past, so I was not surprised to see a question come across. But this one was suspicious to me in the way "she" answered questions and had very few actual pen references. For someone wanting to "upgrade", she seemed too removed from the topic. I was quickly dubious of the veracity of her interest in pens, and it seemed like "baiting" to me. I am heading this off before it can possibly go any further. She answered me after I had done the copy and paste, so I added that at the end. I am still suspicious.

Below is a copy and paste of our online conversation. I am not going to hide her Twitter username in case anyone else runs across this. I make no apologies for taking this tack, because I am not going to get sucked in. I am also transparent about these things with my wife, so I am putting this out there for accountability measures. My bride has full access to all of my social media accounts, my text messages, my email, my phone, my finances, whatever she wants to see.

MEN - be on guard.

Hey Troy! Saw your love for fountain pens - got any favorites? Been looking to upgrade mine.

You accepted the request

I love both modern and vintage. Did you have an era you particularly like? Do you like mass produced or custom maker pens? What price range are you considering? I probably have recommendations in all categories.

Sorry, work and school have kept me full time busy. If you like vintage pens, the 1920s is, in my opinion, the best era for vintage pens. Waterman red ripple model 52 or 55 are good entries into vintage pens. Sheaffer flat top celluloid pens are also some of my favorites, especially in a jade color. I have my favorite vendors for vintage pens I can always pass along if you like.

That sounds like a lot! I like jade, it's so pretty! You know a lot about pens!

 Do I intimidate you?
😖

You obviously have some other motive besides pen knowledge, which I suspected early on, especially viewing your profile. I am not totally sure what your angle is yet, but I have suspicions. And I can only laugh about asking if you intimidate me. You obviously don't know me nor will you be able to goad me into responding with questions like that. If you want pen knowledge that I can provide, I am willing to help. If you are trying to build some sort of online relationship, trying to gradually bait me into viewing some online FansOnly type thing, or are just lonely looking for some guy to chat with, I don't play those games. As a happily married husband, father, and Christ follower, I will be guarded against that sort of thing. So, if you have pen questions, feel free to ask. If you want something else, you can discontinue the discussion now.
