troy, i tend to agree with you most of the time but as a conservative and a Christian as i am and you say you are, i find it disturbing that you find that this is funny and would go as far as to post it on your blog.

Even Christians and conservatives have a sense of humor. It was indeed, funny. The spot was memorable, well written, and attention grabbing. You filled in the bleeps on your own.

Religious people do tend to find stuff disturbing that doesn't fit into their mold.

troy, first of all, i am not "religious", i am a Christian!there is a difference! and yes my mind filled in the bleeps(and don't tell me that your's didn't) because unfortunatly in this day and time it is hard to not hear those words in everyday life.one of our worlds biggest problems is that too many "Christians" tolerate too much of the world! yes Christians have a sense of hummor, but do not have to listen to foul language(bleeped or not)to have fun and get a laugh. please do not take this as an attack, just trying to explain my first post so that maybe you will understand a little bit better what i was saying.and as far as stuff fitting into my mold, i try to fit into Christ's mold, my mold means nothing.thanks.

By the way, had you grown up in the same household I did, you would know just why I find that ad so amusing. It is something my mom would be laughing over, too.

One thing that I have learned is that you can actually look at the world and laugh once in a while. If all the fullness of the Godhead is bodily in Jesus and we are His body, then it is safe to say that we reflect Him.

Jesus has a sense of humor, too. The Spirit of God has shown me many sides of his humor over the years that I have walked with him. He has taught me to stop and laugh once in a while and to loosen up on some personally held ideas of personal holiness. My personal ideas were not necessarily His ideas and were indeed false holiness.

I didn't use the language myself, I looked and laughed. I guarantee that if you do some self examination, you will find some double standards. Allow me to give you some examples.

I know people who are dead set against watching the Harry Potter movies or reading the books. They base that upon the Christian beliefs against witchcraft. I am fine with that. Yet, these same people often will find it OK to see "children's movies" that contain animism (don't confuse animation with animism), which is purely pantheistic in nature. That is a double standard.

I also find that the same argument against Harry Potter is violated by teachings of Santa Claus, watching Disney movies, or even Shrek movies.

I often find the same arguments about music. People often will harshly criticize rock and roll music but will listen to beer drinking, cheating, short skirt wearing country music, but claim they are Christian, listening to good clean music. Even old favorites by Johnny Cash have drug using, getting drunk songs, so this is nothing new. And Johnny Cash was a Christian. Charlie Daniels still sings "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and I am sure he gets criticized accordingly. BJ Thomas (I have had the good fortune of being able to talk to both Charlie Daniels and BJ Thomas in my lifetime) was always getting criticized for not singing gospel songs instead of "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head". Pat Boone got a lot of heat for singing secular songs, especially his heavy metal album. Amy Grant got a lot of undue criticism for having a cross-over album.

Christians were up in arms over the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" and yet flocked to see "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", despite its use of wizardry and creatures straight out of paganism. This is not to mention the parallel of Aslan and Christ, yet the concept of the animal kingdom lining up against Him, not mankind. Hey, you can't please everybody.

Do you not expect the world to act like the world? I do. I am therefore not surprised by it when they do. Too many of us forget that such were some of us. Thankfully, we are no longer, if we are in His kingdom.

I remember a discussion that I had one time about whether or not a moral leader should agree to an interview in Playboy magazine. He was slammed for even considering the opportunity. A pastor I know was harshly critical of the concept, saying that he doubts Billy Graham would ever do an interview with Playboy. He may be right, but that doesn't make Graham right, either. And that is absolutely no slight to Graham. I have a great respect for him. I do know that Jesus was not afraid to be around prostitutes, lepers, and tax collectors. Yet he was still holy.

Yes, I can look at something and laugh. I can look at a piece of fine art and recognize that it is good. I can see Renaissance paintings that have chunky, naked women without becoming a porn addict or being considered a sinner and unclean.

I have been in the media business a long time...the majority of my life. I watch TV for the ads quite a bit (which is actually part of my job), and I can recognize a work of art when I see one.

OK, 'nuff said. Time for a beer. Just kidding. Maybe.

You're right, I forgot LOTR. Good movies, though. Excellently produced.

I'm not worked up, so don't worry. Actually, I have been pretty calm and smiling as I typed the commentaries. I have had this discussion many times before and always get a chuckle out of them.

I used to be pretty intense and critical about these very things. I had to be broken of it over time. One of the best books I have ever read that was a Godsend to me was Bob Hellmann's False Holiness Exposed. It helped confirm the things I knew inside but was fighting against.

By the way, I don't get offended by commentaries and comments, in case you were wondering. Until you have had a "Why I hate Troy" web site made about you as I have and been raked over the coals by hateful, venomous people who claim to be Christian while criticizing your Christianity with terms like "hate" and consignment to Hell, you haven't lived.

So I don't get worked up or hate commentaries. I have said for years that when you are willing to stick your head above the crowd, you are going to get some tomatoes thrown at you.
